Oh Mei Mei what good word of mouth you have!!! This is amongst the best Chinese eateries in town fo sho!! Ok so it isn't smack bang in the centre of town but not far away either (5 minute walk, few minutes with a cabby)

Chinese culture with the karaoke bars and restaurants is proud of its cheese and here it is no different. The waiters are armed with these musical remote devices which come to life with cheesy music upon readiness of their tables grub. Reminds me of the canteen at Loughborough University. Happy days!!

I have heard mixed reviews about the service although the quality of the food has seldom been questioned. I thought the service was immaculate. One of the best Chinese grub options in the city for sure and a must visit in my book.

As someone who is frequently spoiled by the excessive Asian food options, living in the U.K. has been a major adjustment for me. Not necessarily lowering my expectations, just adjusting it to the flavor palettes here.

I'm only in Liverpool as a short stop to my intended destination, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is a Chinatown here! Surely there must be some decent Chinese food?! Any place you go that has Asians flocking to that spot, it's usually good!

This place did not disappoint. As far as rice rolls go, they have so many options that I've never even heard of back home. Then you've got your standard steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, and other special menu items like tripe, chicken feet, etc.

I got the BBQ pork rice rolls, chicken feet, spare ribs in black bean sauce, and the honeycomb intestines (?). All were very good. Might even be better than back in California.

I did ask for soy sauce, Chinese mustard, and satay sauce--the usual condiments that I'd get back home. They were confused and gave me sweet and sour sauce instead.

They did ask me to leave tip, not sure what that was about. I've never been asked to do that here as I voluntarily give it for good service anyway.

All in all, it satisfied my cravings. If I'm ever in Liverpool, I'd pop back into this spot.

Mei Mei is a top class Chinese restaurant in Liverpool and is up there with the best along with the likes of Chung Ku and Tai Pan. Some of the reasons for this include the décor which is elegantly designed, there are many local Chinese that dine here and the food delivers great standards. All of these factors of course contribute to its popularity, making a name for itself in Chinatown as it does well to compete with other similar restaurants.

There are many choices the menu has to offer and you will usually find the restaurant buzzing with customers during lunchtime as they tuck into some delicious Dim Sum. If you are unsure what to order, waiters/waitresses are always happy to help you choose otherwise there is the option of selecting a Dim Sum combination for a set price of £8 per person. The prices for most dishes are actually quite expensive, if not the most expensive around Liverpool so no reason to feel ripped off as you should expect to spend at least £10 alone (easily more) for a good quality meal remember. That has to be the only catch but if you're out to celebrate a special occasion or just fancy a little treat, then you can't go wrong with Mei Mei's food. The only issue for me, is value for money.

Liverpool has one of the oldest and largest Chinese communities in Europe, dating from the 1830s. It's still going strong and, unsurprisingly, one of the mainstays of the Chinatown, centered around Nelson Street, is the restaurant trade. The choice is intimidatingly large, so browse around and take your pick.

Mei Mei is relative newcomer, having opened in its present guise in 2004. Set on two levels, the interior is spacious and bright, although the decor of the upstairs room is a bit lacking in atmosphere. Although it seemed to have a wide range of clientele on our visit, it's more suited to a business or group meal than a romantic meal for two (or conversely anyone looking for somewhere very traditional and cosy, or cheap and basic).

The compensation is that the food is a cut above your average Chinese, with no sign of MSG and an interesting and diverse menu. You pay a little extra for this - expect two courses with beer or wine to come to around £25 a head. Choices include both Cantonese and Sechuan cuisine. The vegetarian choice is much wider than your average Chinese, but it is the Dim Sum which most people recommend here. It's popular with local Chinese people, and a regular party venue for the various Chinese Business Associations, so I guess that's as good a recommendation as any.

Service is fast and efficient, although - oddly, I thought - you'll have to ask if you prefer to use chopsticks rather than the Western cutlery you are given as standard. But overall, a safe bet for a reasonably-priced meal out.

Found Mei Mei while wandering around Liverpool looking for a Chinese. Staff were friendly as soon as we walked in and sat us down to wait for a table. From the start it seemed an appealing venue. Nice open layout, decor was up to date, light and airy. All the tables were filled on a Wednesday evening! Was very impressed with that.
My family and I have some dietary restrictions, some problems with dairy and prawn. The poor waitress was a little unsure of herself when we were asking about these things and the menu choices we were looking at, but she went to the kitchen to check and then got her supervisor to speak to us. He was upfront about the bits he was sure about and not sure about. They couldn't guarantee no milk in the batter on the orange duck.
We made our choices and the food was overall very good. You can tell a restaurant has done well when there's just silence for a while after food arrival!
A shame they couldn't be certain about some parts of the meals which come pre-prepared like the batter, but we really enjoyed our meal and staff were lovely.
